Tools I Use To Discover New Music

By Anneliese Herbosa

A breakdown of my go-to music discovery, streaming, and sharing tools/platforms. I rely on each for unique purposes. Feel free to connect with me, if your ears are so inclined: [Last.fm](http://last.fm/user/ahrbs) / [8tracks](http://8tracks.com/ahrbs) / [SoundCloud](https://soundcloud.com/ahrbs)

  • Last.fm

Everyday I'm scrobbling. A rich source of info on artists. A great way to archive single tracks you've listened to, and to monitor affinity by number of plays.

  • 8tracks

Has a variety of meta-genres to discover. Who would have known there's such a thing called 'trip hop' and 'chillstep'? Ears = blown. Also a quality source of A+ handpicked mixes.

  • Grooveshark

Love the amount of freedom a user has to customize their listening experience. Plus, it takes only seconds to curate a playlist. (RIP)

  • SoundCloud

Many of the sickest remixes I've come across were born out of SoundCloud and further amplified across the interwebz. I particularly love how users can add commentary to specific sections of a track.

  • Songza

Great for the 'lazy listener' (or simply for anyone who likes to be pleasantly surprised). The work has already been done for you. Choose by genre, mood, activity, culture, or time frame.

  • Rdio

Beautiful UI is beautiful, both on their web and mobile app. High quality audio (320 Kbps). Great streaming service allowing you to customize your listening queue and create private and collaborative playlists. (RIP)
