6 Inexpensive Things To Do in Vancouver This Weekend

By Catrina McCrae

  • Outdoor Cinema...At Home

We love sitting on grass for hours with 1000+ strangers as much as the next guy. Sometimes, however, you really just want to watch a movie outside while perched in a seat (with an actual back to it) next to accessible, free snacks. Good news, you can. Check out if your nearest library has rentable projectors (many of them do), rally a group of friends, pop some corn and throw a sheet over the fence in your backyard.

  • Bocce in the Park

Bocce is underrated. If you don't already own a set, consider ordering [this one](http://www.amazon.com/Playaboule-Lighted-Glo-Boules-Petanque/dp/B002OLDA6Y)—which also happens to glow in the dark. Head down to the [nearest park](https://www.google.ca/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&es_th=1&ie=UTF-8#q=find+vancouver+parks&rflfq=1&tbm=lcl&rlha=0) with some snacks and big group of friends and get your glow-ball on.

  • Feeling Stressed? Get Colouring

No, seriously. Go pick up a colouring book (Indigo even has [adult ones](https://www.chapters.indigo.ca/en-ca/books/colouring-books?scampaign=goo-BooksByTop50&mkwid=sPpbSiasUdc&pcrid=62811862862&pkw=adult%20coloring%20books&pmt=e&scampaign=goo-Books+by+Top+50&gclid=CjwKEAjwi4yuBRDXvq07YyF7l8SJAAhm0rp0XHUOuqTAhgvNgukX85AyJGggkxh5cvglWldCieZxoColXwwcB)) and find a shady spot outside. Colouring is not only intensely satisfying, but it also has been shown to relieve [stress and anxiety](https://www.upworthy.com/3-reasons-why-all-the-adults-you-know-have-started-coloring-again?c=huf1) while also stimulating creativity. Basically, it's the perfect excuse to chill out under a tree and act like a kid. We're in.

  • Coffee Shop Hop

In need of a serious kick start the morning after a big night out? It's too nice to stay inside, so why not trade up last night's bar hop for a coffee shop hop instead. Hit up a few of Gastown's great cafes like [Revolver](http://www.revolvercoffee.ca) (for a cold brew in their branded coffee flask), [Timbertrain](http://www.timbertraincoffeeroasters.com) (for their nitrogen-infused cold brew on tap) and the recently opened the [Birds and the Beets](http://www.birdsandbeets.ca/) (for an espresso shot and pork sandwich). Boom. Your day is started.

  • Host a Grilled Cheese Potluck

Seems super specific, we know, but who can argue that a grilled cheese sandwich is one of the best foods out there? Pick up some cold beverages, ask friends to each bring a different ingredient and then whip up some epic sandwiches like the [Bacon Guacamole Grilled Cheese](http://greatist.com/eat/gourmet-grilled-cheese-recipes) or the [Lasagna Grilled Cheese](http://greatist.com/eat/gourmet-grilled-cheese-recipes). This way you get to try each and every one.

  • Check Out Stanley Park's Trails

You've biked the Seawall. You've spent many scorching afternoons sprawled out on Third Beach's sand. Have you ever actually ventured _inside_ Stanley Park? Well, it's time that you do. Take a stroll amongst some of the tallest fir, cedar and hemlock trees in the [forest trails](http://vancouver.ca/parks-recreation-culture/stanley-park-trails.aspx), which boast more than 27 km of quiet beauty. Everyone is too busy looking at the outside that they forget to look inside, you know?
