Top 5 Spots for Night Dives

By Scuba Diver Life

Night dives always show us an entirely new world, but these 5 spots give divers even more bang for their psi.

  • Frederiksted Pier, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands

Due to the ease of access and healthy nocturnal marine life, this site is consistently named as a top night dive location. The columns of the pier shelter an amazing array of animals including seahorses, turtles, octopuses, and parrotfish (in their bubbles at night).

  • Paradise Reef, Cozumel

Shore access combined with sprawling coral gardens make this reef the island’s top night diving spot. Lobsters, morays, octopuses, squid, crabs, and more treat lucky divers to a moonlit show to the tune of croaking toadfish.

  • Kona Mantas, Hawaii

No night diving list would be complete without the world famous manta night dives in Hawaii.  The area is home to hundreds of mantas that willingly grace the divers and snorkelers with their presence as soon as the operators turn on the beckoning lights.  Just sit back and watch the show.

  • Arborek Jetty, Raja Ampat, Indonesia

This is another site that while phenomenal during the day, manages to take it up a few notches when the sun goes down.  Walking and wobbegong sharks, croaking toadfish, pygmy seahorses, cuttlefish, nudis upon nudis, blue-ringed octopus, and so many more take shelter in this favored Indonesian spot.

  • Nudi Falls, Lembeh Strait, Indonesia

This sheltered bay holds a diverse diving environment that’s a combination of coral fields, walls, sandy areas, and rocky outcrops.  Wonderful during the day, but at night divers can be sure to find flatworms, blue-ringed octopus, wonderpus, pygmy seahorses, frogfish, cuttlefish, squids, and of course tons of its namesake – nudibranchs.
