Slang Terms for Drugs Your Teen is Using

The names of street drugs are constantly changing, which might make it tough for you to understand exactly what your kid is talking about. Here are some examples of popular street drugs and the names they're often called by.

  • Ecstasy

    When its not referred to as ecstasy, it could be called MDMA, euphoria, X, XTC, Adam, love drug or lover’s speed.

  • LSD

    This psychadelic drug can also be called acid, blotters, microdots, trips, holidays, boomers or yellow sunshine.

  • Inhalants

    You might recognize a substance you inhale if its referred to as sniff, huff, spray, buzz bomb, moon gas, snotballs or air blast.

  • PCP

    This incredibly dangerous drug is also known as angel dust, rocket fuel, embalming fluid, wack, dust, hog, ozone, crystal or elephant.

  • Cocaine

    Coke, snow, blow, flake and snow candy all refer to cocaine, as does the phrase "hitting the slopes."

  • Heroin

    You might recognize heroin by its other names: horse, H, smack, junk, dope, thunder, skag, Big H or black tar.

  • Painkillers (Opioids)

    Morphine, methadone, meperidine (Demerol), hydromorphone (Dialaudid), and oxycodone (OxyContin, Percocet) all refer to opioids and painkillers.

  • Crystal Meth

    You might have heard these terms on "Breaking Bad": speed, crystal, meth, jibb, ice, crank and Tina.

  • Marijuana

    Weed, grass, pot, dope, Mary Jane, ganja, herb, bud—the list goes on and on.

  • Hash

    Your teens might be using the words hashish, hash oil, hemp, chronic, boom or gangster to refer to hash.

  • GHB

    Often referred to as the date rape drug, GHB is also known as liquid ecstasy, Liquid X, scoop, Georgia home boy, goop, grievous bodily harm and caps.
